Vagamon मध्ये मोठी हॉटेल वगैरे अशी फारशी नाहीत. आहेत ते चहाच्या मळ्या मध्ये, निसर्गाच्या कुशीत वसलेले असंख्य छोटे मोठे बंगले. ह्या बंगल्यामध्ये अनेक ठिकाणी पर्यटकांना रहायची सोय केलेली आहे. ज्याला होम स्टे (home stay) असं म्हणतात.
दाट धुकं, मध्येच येणारा जोरात वारा, पाऊस, घरचं गरमा-गरम जेवण आणि चहा. अहाहा स्वर्गसुखच! 😍
प्रॉब्लेम फक्त एकच तो म्हणजे भाषा. हे ठिकाण, केरळ मधील अतिशय आतील खेड्यात वसलेलं असल्यामुळे इथे केरळ बाहेरच्या पर्यटकांचा वावर त्या मानाने कमी आहे. त्यामुळे अर्थातच इथे फारच कमी लोकांना हिंदी इंग्लिश समजतं किंवा बोलता येतं.
मग काय खाणाखुणा, हातवारे आणि गूगल वरचे फोटोज् वरून त्यांच्याशी संवाद साधणे असे सगळे मजेशीर प्रकार घडले. 🤣
एवढं असून सुद्धा येथील लोकांमध्ये भरपूर आदरातिथ्य आणि मुंबई विषयी अतिशय कुतूहल दिसून आले.
आम्ही तिथे असताना त्या परिसराला पावसाने अगदी झोडपून काढलं होतं, परंतु आम्ही आमच्या इच्छित ठिकाणी व्यवस्थित पोहोचावं म्हणून अगदी होम स्टेचा मालक, तिथले दुकानदार इतकचं नव्हे तर अगदी पोलिसांनी सुद्धा मदत केली. त्यामुळे आमचा प्रवास अगदी सुखरूप आणि आनंददायी झाला (२)

Since Vagamon is a small hill station in Kerala, there aren't any luxurious hotels around. The only place that exists are bungalows located in the heart of nature or near tea estates. Tourists usually use these bungalows or home-stays for overnight halts.
Once we settled down in these home-stays, there was no looking back. The foggy cloud cover, gentle breeze, constant pitter-patter of the rains, piping hot home-cooked food, and tea to sip on. What else does one need! 😍
Reaching Vagamon, however, was a task. Since this place was nestled deep inside rural Kerala, there was no one around that spoke a language we could communicate in.
So, we resorted to communicating with the locals via sign language and by miming things. Despite being unable to communicate with us, the locals treated us with respect.
During our stay in Kerala, we were hit by heavy rains. Thankfully, we could reach our desired destination safe and sound. Everyone around including the owner of the home-stay, the local shopkeepers, and even the police officials on duty helped us reach Vagamon without any hiccups. This made the journey memorable indeed.
